Shark Attack in Cape Town

The Cape Town shark community is in a state of shock after one of their own was taken by a great white shark while body boarding at Kogel Bay – just after Gordons Bay in False Bay.

David Lillienfield, just 20 years of age, was attacked by a 3 to 4 meter great white shark. The shark, reportedly, attacked him persistently before biting off his leg.

His brother, Gustav, who had been body boarding with him, saw the attack and managed to swim to his brother. He pulled his brother back to the beach, however, his brother’s injuries were too severe.

David was a Springbok body boarder. His death is a huge loss to the South Africa body boarding and surfing community – our deepest condolences go to his family and friends.
